As you probably already know by now, BMW is preparing the next M5 sports sedan and they promised it would be "a brilliant car." The first concept version will be unveiled at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show, with a production version to follow at the Frankfurt Motor Show a few months later.
With the new M5, BMW will focus on improving all the aspects of the car. First, the car will be built on an all-new aluminum chassis and will feature the intense use of carbon fiber. This will help reduce the car’s weight considerably. It will also produce 25% less CO2 and the new V8 engine will require less fuel.
Under the hood there will be the same engine as in the BMW X6 M: a twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V8 engine that will deliver around 555 hp and 680 Nm torque.
UPDATE 03/04/2011: After a very short teaser revealed two days ago, BMW has released another short teaser with Dr. Kay Segler, president of BMW M GmbH. In this video, Dr. Segler explains that he knows all of us are waiting for the new M5 and he wants people to ?Send in Your Dreams?. Apparently, BMW wants people to send in their stories and the best ones will be chosen to be a part of the M5’s development and launch. Only some people will get that opportunity of a lifetime, but the rest of us can enjoy this first glimpse of the M5’s winter testing.
UPDATE 03/16/2011: BMW has revealed a new spy video showing an M5 prototype testing in the snow. In addition to the new video, today’s rumors suggest that the car’s V8 engine will in fact deliver an impressive 578 HP, 23 HP more than the X6M model that uses the same engine.
